Golf Tournament

Certainly one of the most significant community-oriented events sponsored by the Livonia Rotary Club has been the annual Livonia Memorial Golf Tournament. It has become one of the most visible and most anticipated club activities each year.

The tournament, which began in 1996, was originally called The Ted Wiggins Memorial Golf Tournament, in honor of the late Ted Wiggins, a club past president (1988-1989) and Livingston County judge. In 1997 that the tournament was renamed The Livonia Memorial in memory of Ted Wiggins, Susan Dougherty, Faith Knapp, Bob Donovan, and many other Rotarians who predeceased them.

Right from the start, all profits from the tournament have been put into a fund that provides scholarships for deserving students from the Livonia and Honeoye Falls/Lima school districts. For many years, an Avon Central School student is also the recipient of an award. The awards are currently $1,000 each.

The most recent winners (2009 graduates) are Kaitlin Quinn and Meaghan McGinnis of Livonia Central School, Kyle Lee of HF/L Central, and Lesley Mack of Avon Central.

The tournament traditionally is held on a mid-June Tuesday at Old Hickory Golf Club on Big Tree Road in Livonia. The event attracts about 25 foursomes and includes a round of golf (Scramble) with a cart, lunch and a steak dinner. Dozens of prizes are awarded as well.
